1. Morrissey
When: August 1

More than a decade after his last appearance in Portugal, Morrissey returns to Porto for an exclusive concert at the Super Bock Arena. The show is part of his current European tour and introduces material from his latest album, Make-Up Is A Lie, alongside a setlist built on the most iconic songs of his solo career and his years as frontman of The Smiths.

2. Viagem Medieval em Terra de Santa Maria
When: August 1-9 (continuing from July 29)
Where: Centro Histórico de Santa Maria da Feira (35 min from Porto)

Europe’s largest medieval recreation event is celebrating its 30th edition in 2026. Over 12 days across 33 hectares of the historic center of Santa Maria da Feira, some 2,000 performers bring to life the era of D. Teresa and D. Afonso Henriques, with lots of daily shows, jousting tournaments, plenty of themed areas and food courts, and medieval markets filling the streets. It’s truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience that offers anyone the opportunity to experience Portugal at its best.
This year also marks the first time professional actors have been cast in the leading historical roles. It’s a 35-minute drive or bus ride from Porto, so it’s easy enough for a day trip, though the event is big enough to deserve at least two or three visits if you have time.
3. Feira do Livro do Porto
When: August 21-September 6
Where: Jardins do Palácio de Cristal, R. de D Manuel II, 4050-346 Porto

The 13th edition of Porto’s beloved book fair returns to the Jardins do Palácio de Cristal, arguably the most beautiful open-air venue for a literary festival anywhere in Portugal, with views over the Douro and an abundance of plant species. This year’s edition honors poet Inês Lourenço, 83 years old and deeply connected to the city, with the first three days of programming dedicated to her work.
The 2026 program features over 130 stands, author talks, workshops, and plenty of family activities.
4. O Mundo de Sofia: Um Chapéu Conta Histórias
When: August 23
Where: Museu Aurélia e Sofia de Souza, R. de Nossa Sra. de Fátima 299
How much: Free
A family workshop inspired by Sofia de Souza, sister of painter Aurélia de Souza, who was known for her bold, inventive hats, including the one she wears in her celebrated self-portrait.
Drawing on the museum’s inaugural exhibition dedicated to both painters, the workshop invites children and families to create their own original hats, exploring form, colour, and imagination in the same spirit as Sofia herself.
In other words, this is one of the most ingenious and fun events happening in Porto in August 2026, since it introduces younger visitors to the story of two of Porto’s most significant female artists. Entrance is free, but there’s a maximum capacity of 15 participants. If you’re interested in this event, send a registration form as soon as possible.
5. Candlelight Concerts

Porto’s candlelit concert series continues through August in some of the city’s most atmospheric venues, including the Baroque riverside Pestana Palácio do Freixo.

6. Batalha – Noémia (Exhibition, Final Days)

Where: Batalha Centro de Cinema, Praça da Batalha 47

Running since March, this photography exhibition by Noémia Delgado closes out its extended run at Batalha Centro de Cinema at the beginning of August. If you haven’t caught it yet, the final days are your last chance.
Noémia Delgado was a prominent Portuguese screenwriter, film editor, and director, widely known for the documentary Mascaras. After her death, her personal archive was donated to the Cinemateca Portuguesa-Museu do Cinema. The exhibition reconstructs her journey as an artist through her drawings, correspondence, chronicles, and poetry.
7. Porto PianoFest
When: August 1-11
Where: Casa da Música, Museu de Serralves, Reitoria da Universidade do Porto, Museu Romântico, and other venues

Porto PianoFest is one of the most ambitious piano festivals in the Iberian Peninsula, spreading over ten days across some of the city’s finest spaces. The opening night on August 1 at the Casa da Música‘s Sala Suggia features the Aaron Parks Trio, with PianoFest concerts then moving through the Reitoria da Universidade do Porto, the Museu Romântico, the Casa Comum, and the Serralves auditorium, which hosts the closing concert on August 11.

8. Conjunções Ibéricas III – Batalhas e Suas Tréguas
When: August 2
Where: Mosteiro de São Bento da Vitória, R. de São Bento da Vitória 45

Part of the ongoing concert cycle A Música e o Órgão Ibérico – Ciclo de Concertos no Centro Histórico do Porto em 3 Atos, this free organ recital takes place in one of Europe’s most beautiful Mannerist and Baroque interiors! This monastery is one of Porto’s most important religious buildings. Its construction started in 1604, with multiple additions and restorations taking place over the centuries.
The program, titled Battles and Their Truces in English, explores the musical rhetoric of conflict and resolution in Iberian organ music from the 16th and 17th centuries.
Entry is free but subject to capacity, so make sure to arrive early to guarantee a seat. It is undoubtedly one of the events one should not miss, particularly since it’s held in one of the most sonically rewarding spaces in the city for acoustic music.
