Tour Description

Visit the birthplace of the Portuguese nation - the city of Guimarães. This was the first capital of Portugal, chosen by the first king, Afonso Henriques. Take a visit to the Dukes of Bragança Palace, and to other points of interest in the ancient center of this beautiful city. The tour will continue to Braga, the most ancient religious capital of Portugal. Sameiro and Braga´s Bom Jesus Sanctuary are places that shouldn't be missed. Then, coming from the surrounding area of Braga, head straight to the historical center and to its magnificent Cathedral, one of the main references in the evolution of Portuguese architectural standards. Afterwards, enjoy free time for lunch. Barcelos, notable for its Portugese handicrafts (espacially ceramics like "The Barcelos Rooster"), will be the next destination. Continue on to the Historical Center of the city to explore the Romanesque bridge (demonstrating the Roman influence in Iberian Peninsula), the local Archaeological Museum, and "Nossa Senhora do Terço Church". Next take a passage through Póvoa de Varzim, a city with deep connections to the local fishermen community. Then cross the main avenue, to view the local Bull Arena, and the Atlantic Ocean.
