Beer Festival in the Castelo de São Jorge – 4th edition. Apart from the panoramic views over the city, which are undoubtedly some of the best, this event marks the beginning of the summer festivals in Lisboa. It is a recreation of the medieval times. You will find entertainment, gastronomy, a rich Portuguese music program, handicrafts and... gallons of beer.

Vila Franca de Xira (Lisboa region)

Festas do Colete Encarnado (The Red Waistcoat Festival) - This is the most important festival in Vila Franca de Xira, and it celebrates the “campino” (a sort of Portuguese cowboy of the Ribatejo). The festival derives its name from the traditional red waistcoat of the “campino”. The festival’s program includes a running of the bulls, and a showcase of horses. There will be fireworks displays, livestock riding contests, a boat procession, a regatta on the Tejo, and regular feasting on sardines. The high point of the festival is on Saturday when the festivities will last until dawn.
